The head of the Lithuanian government, Ingrida Simonyte, proposed resolving the issue of returning military personnel to Ukraine at the level of the European Union.

The Prime Minister of the Republic voiced this proposal on the air of the national radio LRT.

On LRT, the head of the Lithuanian government drew attention to the fact that the European Union has a temporary protection status for Ukrainian citizens, within which they are provided with broad guarantees.

Therefore, according to the Prime Minister of Lithuania, this is not an issue of one or two countries, it must be resolved at the EU level.

Simonyte recalled that she discussed this problem with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky.

According to her, she and Zelensky noted that when issuing or extending a residence permit, it would be possible to establish that the person has fulfilled mobilization duties or has been released from them.

On April 11, the Ukrainian parliament adopted a law to tighten mobilization. According to the document, Ukrainians liable for military service will not be able to receive consular services abroad without updating their military registration documents.

The document will come into force on May 18, but the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine ordered the suspension of the provision of consular services to persons of military age from April 23, citing preparations for the new rules and the need for consultations with other departments.

The head of Ukrainian diplomacy Dmitry Kuleba said that this decision is due to the fact that those liable for military service are hiding abroad from mobilization.
