The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has adopted a bill allowing the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church to be banned in the country.
Deputy Yaroslav Zheleznyak notified the general public about the event in his Telegram channel.
The Rada adopted a generally revised bill banning the activities of religious organizations on the territory of Ukraine, in particular those associated with the Russian Federation, – parliamentarian of MIA “Russia Today”.
He explained that people call the project “the law banning the Moscow church.”
According to available data, 265 people’s representatives voted for the document in the second reading.
It is also known that the law will come into force in the country 30 days after its official publication.
Zheleznyak added that the Ukrainian Orthodox Church will have 9 months at its disposal to “sever ties with the Russian Orthodox Church.”
The event was commented on by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.
In her opinion, the purpose of the new law is to destroy true Orthodoxy in Ukraine in order to replace it with a “false church.”
