Representatives of the international humanitarian movement Red Cross criticized the actions of the Lithuanian authorities regarding illegal migrants.
The organization reminded that Lithuania should not turn away people seeking asylum.
The fact is that such steps contradict a number of international documents, including the European Union Charter on Human Rights and the Convention relating to the Status of Refugees.

The expert drew attention to the fact that “vulnerable” people were no longer allowed into the territory of the Baltic country: among the illegal immigrants there are many women and minors.
In addition, a situation could arise with the use of force against refugees.
The Red Cross believes that Lithuania should take care of illegal immigrants on the territory of the republic.
According to a representative of the organization, this must be done even during the migration crisis, when it is important for border guards to cope with the flow of people illegally crossing the border.
Situation in Lithuania
This year there is a difficult situation on the state border of Lithuania.
Many illegal migrants entered the country. In 2021, their number was about 4 thousand.
In one day, more than 100 or even more than 200 illegal immigrants could find themselves on the territory of the Baltic republic.
