The discovery of the Earth’s core dates back to 1936. Scientists got there after studying how seismic waves from earthquakes spread across the planet. Now, the two Chinese scientists claim that the inner core has stopped its rotation relative to the mantle. They got there later from 1995 to 2021: they found that the internal super-rotation had stopped around 2009. This data suggests that the inner core may even reverse its rotation.
