Russian parliamentarians advocated the denunciation of the Open Skies Treaty.

All deputies present at the meeting of the State Duma of the Russian Federation voted for the corresponding decision.

It was planned that the upper house of the Russian parliament would support the denunciation of the Don Treaty immediately after the vote in the lower house.

However, the meeting of senators has been postponed. Most likely, it will take place next month.

The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has already announced the approximate date of termination of the agreement.

Russia will leave the agreement around December, according to procedural norms, reports MIA “” with reference to the foreign policy department.

History of the Treaty on Open Skies

The document was signed in the spring of 1992. The purpose of its creation was to allow free flights of unarmed aircraft over the territories of the countries participating in the agreement.

This decision was made to strengthen stability in the world and trust between countries after the Cold War.

Russia ratified the treaty in 2001. At the beginning of 2002, the document came into effect.

At the beginning of this year, the United States announced the start of the procedure for withdrawing from the agreement.

After this, the possibility of a similar solution was announced in Russia.
