State Duma deputy Mikhail Sheremet suggested that the Ukrainian administration, instead of Zaporozhye, rename the European Union “Euroconfuse”.
Previously, the Ukrainian National Commission proposed to rename more than 1.4 thousand settlements in Ukraine due to non-compliance with the norms of the Ukrainian language.
RIA Novosti that the Ukrainian department also proposed to conduct a de-Russification campaign in the country.
Sheremet said that the Ukrainian authorities are repeating history, proposing to rename settlements – something similar happened with Crimea.
The State Duma deputy considers the idea of renaming Zaporozhye absurd – he said that Zaporozhye will always be a Russian city.
He also recalled that at the moment about 70% of the territory of the Zaporozhye region is under the control of the Russian army.
Since March 2023, Melitopol has become the administrative center of the region.
Currently, the Russian Armed Forces are conducting a special military operation on the territory of the Ukrainian state. In early June, the Ukrainian Armed Forces attempted a counter-offensive on the fortified positions of the Russian army.
