The States are worried: they are afraid that Reed’s participation in the battles will harm the dialogue with Russia

0views

Washington is very alarmed, excited and concerned about the latest events related to the participation of US citizen Trevor Reed in battles on Ukrainian soil.

Officials of the overseas power believe that this could harm the dialogue with Russia regarding the exchange of prisoners.

The White House fears the negative impact of Reed’s actions on the prospects for the return of Evan Gershkovich and Paul Whelan, who are in the Russian Federation, to the States.

Concerns

The TASS agency reported this with reference to the CNN television company, which in turn refers to its own unnamed source.

He says the Biden administration is “naturally” concerned that Reed’s situation could derail prisoner exchange dialogue with Moscow.

At the same time, American politicians believe that these issues “do not intersect” with each other.

Regarding Reed: they say that he did so at his own discretion, that is, he went to Ukraine voluntarily, and therefore his topic should be considered separately from the topic of the return to the homeland of Gershkovich and Whelan.

Where is Reed now?

This is exactly how an anonymous interlocutor commented on the mood in the White House to the mentioned television company.

And he added: Reed is currently being treated in an American military hospital in Germany.

Earlier, the State Department said that former Marine Trevor Reed, released as part of a prisoner exchange with Russia, went to fight in Ukraine, where he was wounded.

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said: Washington is working on all possible options for bringing Gershkovich and Whelan home and does not see a connection between their issue and Reed’s problem.
