The international human rights organization Memorial was liquidated in Russia.

The Supreme Court issued a corresponding ruling. According to his decision, all branches of the organization in the country will have to close.

According to information available to the supervisory agency, the Memorial organization acquired the status of a foreign agent five years ago.

Nevertheless, the company, while continuing to receive money from abroad, carried out political activities in Russia with the aim of influencing “the position of the state and public opinion,” according to the Prosecutor General’s Office.

In addition, the organization, according to the prosecutor, distorted the memory of the Great Patriotic War and the image of the Soviet Union.

Representatives of the defense stated that they intend to appeal the verdict.
