74views

Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson wants to compete for the post of Prime Minister after the resignation of Liz Truss.

Stephen Swinford, a political observer for the British edition of The Times, announced this on Twitter on October 20, citing sources.

Johnson’s plans

According to Swinford, sources say Johnson will put forward his candidacy for the post of leader of the Conservative Party and head of government.

The journalist noted that Johnson is currently consulting with trusted officials about the nomination.

But, they say, he believes that this is a matter of national interests, – added Swinford.

Earlier, The Daily Telegraph published a list of the most likely successors to Truss, who announced her resignation today.

The rating was topped by ex-Treasury Minister Rishi Sunak, who was Trass’s main rival during the summer election campaign. The publication estimates his chances of winning at 62%.

Leader of the House of Commons Penny Mordaunt is second with 33.3%, followed by Johnson with 5.3%.

The election of the new Tory leader will be held according to an accelerated procedure, due to which the winner will be determined by October 28.
