The Turkish parliament gives the go-ahead for Sweden to join NATO

45views

The Turkish Grand National Assembly (parliament) approved a draft law regarding the ratification of the protocol on Sweden’s accession to NATO.

The corresponding vote took place during a meeting of the General Assembly of Parliament.

Now only Hungary remains the only country in the North Atlantic Alliance that still has not approved Stockholm’s application to join the military-political bloc.

As for the voting in the Turkish parliament, according to TASS, 346 deputies took part in it.

287 parliamentarians voted for ratification, 55 deputies were against, and four abstained.

It is known that Sweden’s entry into NATO was supported by the ruling Justice and Development Party in Turkey, led by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Also in favor of admitting Stockholm to the North Atlantic Alliance were the Nationalist Movement Party and the opposition Republican People’s Party.

The next step is for the head of state to sign the bill approved by parliament.

Earlier it became known that Bulgaria and Romania are “partially” part of the Schengen zone.
