Statement by Guterres

The UN Secretary General said that there is a nuclear danger unseen since the height of the Cold War and that humanity is in danger of forgetting the lessons of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

Geopolitical tensions reach new heightsstated the head of the organization.

He noted that there are currently almost 13,000 nuclear weapons in the arsenals of countries around the world.

According to the UN secretary general, countries are engaged in providing imaginary security by investing billions of dollars in doomsday weapons that have no place on the planet, all this at a time when the risks of nuclear weapons proliferation are increasing and barriers to preventing escalation are weakening.

Guterres believes that the complete destruction of nuclear weapons is necessary, because this is the only guarantee of their non-use.
