The United States issued the first passport with an “X” in the “gender” column

The United States issued the first passport in which the “gender” column indicated not “male” or “female,” but “X.”

The press service of the US State Department informed about this on October 27.

Let us recall that earlier US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said that the country’s authorities plan to allow citizens, when receiving a passport or consular certificate of birth abroad (CRBA), to choose independently what to indicate in the “gender” column.

It was reported that persons who identify as neither male nor female will be able to indicate gender “X” and that if the gender selection does not match the data on other identity documents, medical confirmation will not be required.

The State Department issued the first passport with an “X” marked in the “gender” column, – the American foreign policy department reported today.

By the beginning of next year, the US authorities plan to complete updating the relevant procedures and forms, after which each citizen will be able to choose “male”, “female” or “X” as their gender when receiving a passport or CRBA.
