The United States transferred confiscated Russian assets to the needs of Ukraine

It became known that the US authorities decided to transfer more than five million dollars to the needs of Ukraine, which previously belonged to Russian businessman Konstantin Malofeev.

The information was published by CNN with reference to the head of the US Department of Justice and his Ukrainian colleague.

The heads of the Ministry of Justice of the United States and Ukraine confirm the information that the United States for the first time directed funds confiscated from a Russian businessman to the needs of Ukraine.

“I approved the first transfer of confiscated Russian assets for use in Ukraine,” MIA quoted Merrick Garland as saying.

It is also known that the data is confirmed by the Ukrainian Ministry of Justice. Its head, Andrei Kostin, assures that the money will be used to restore the country.

How many were seized?

Media reports that $5,379,876 and another 94 cents were confiscated from an account previously opened by a Russian entrepreneur at Sunflower Bank.

Malofeev first came under sanctions from Washington in 2014. Second time in April 2022. He was accused of actions that undermined the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.
