The US announced the end of the withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan

22views

The United States has completed the withdrawal of troops and a military operation to evacuate civilians from Afghanistan.

This information was announced by the head of the US Central Command, Kenneth McKenzie, at a press conference at the Pentagon.

He said that on August 30, the last C-17 military transport plane took off from the airport in Kabul with US Chargé d’Affaires in Afghanistan Ross Wilson.

According to McKenzie, this marks the end of a nearly two-decade mission that began in Afghanistan after September 11, 2001.

The cost was the deaths of 2,461 US military personnel and civilians. More than 20,000 were injured – the general said, clarifying that these figures take into account the 13 American troops killed last week by an IS suicide bomber.

McKenzie also said that there are a couple hundred Americans left in Afghanistan.

We will work to get these people out, – he added.
