The New York Times, citing a source in the White House, reports that the United States will soon make an announcement about the supply of cluster munitions to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
According to the author of the article, confirmation of the delivery of this type of shells came from an official representative of the White House administration.
It says that the Ukrainian authorities continue to insist on the supply of such weapons, regardless of the opinion of Europe.
Currently, cluster munitions are prohibited by an international convention that has been ratified by 123 countries.
The United States and Ukraine have not ratified this convention and their armies can use cluster munitions.
The publication notes that for several months, US authorities had doubts about the use of cluster munitions.
Earlier, the CBS television channel reported that the United States may soon announce a change in decision regarding projectiles of this type.
Human Rights Watch warns that the use of cluster munitions will lead to suffering among the population.
