On Friday, July 7, a press conference was held at the White House, at which Jake Sullivan spoke.
The US national security adviser made an important statement: the country will transfer cluster munitions to Kyiv.
Sullivan did not deny that the use of such shells poses a serious danger to civilians.
It is for this reason, as Biden’s advisor noted, that the United States did not immediately decide to supply these ammunition to the Ukrainian side.
Pentagon spokesman Colin Kohl explained why the United States took such a step:
I am concerned about the humanitarian circumstances, but it will be worse for civilians in Ukraine if Russia wins, – MIA quotes from Kol’s statement.
The American side emphasized: Kyiv gave written guarantees of the “careful” use of ammunition to minimize the danger to civilians.
What are cluster munitions
This is a type of projectile that explodes and ejects smaller ammunition.
The latter do not always work, and in the future this is very dangerous for the civilian population.
The fact is that unexploded shells actually turn into mines, which are quite difficult to find and neutralize.
The consequences of the use of cluster munitions can be felt even after the end of the conflict.
