As experts note, the likelihood of the country joining NATO is still very low due to ongoing military operations.
If Ukraine nevertheless joins the Alliance, the organization will have to apply the fifth article of its charter.
According to the document, the association operates on the principle of collective defense. In other words, a NATO member must be protected by the rest of the Alliance.

Experts are confident that Ukraine will not become a member of the North Atlantic Alliance until the special military operation carried out by Russia in the country ends.
In addition, some other conditions must be met for a country to join NATO.
Thus, a candidate for NATO membership must follow the “principles of democracy.” Experts recalled that some Western politicians are not sure that Ukraine meets this criterion.
In addition, not all participants in the North Atlantic Alliance support the proposal to include the Eastern European country in the association.
