In the coming weeks, the White House plans to name its own mission in Ukraine.
We are talking about American assistance provided by the States to Kyiv. The head of the mission will also be appointed from among the generals.
RBC reported this with reference to The Wall Street Journal, which in turn refers to unnamed officials from the country’s ruling circles.
According to them, the general will take the helm of the American operation in Ukraine, the essence of which is to provide assistance to Kyiv, including training the Ukrainian military.
The newspaper notes that the name of the mission means formal recognition of Washington’s actions in military terms.
This is similar to when the Pentagon gave names to its own operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, for example, “Iraqi Freedom”, “Enduring Freedom”, etc.
According to the publication, the name for the Ukrainian operation is of great importance because it means long-term financing with the possibility of special payments.
In addition, in this case it also becomes possible to reward the military personnel participating in this operation.
As for the general, the WSJ admits the possibility of appointing a person with two or three stars to the post of head of the mission (the Russian equivalents are major general and lieutenant general).
