Thirty years after the end of the Cold War, Washington intends to improve its nuclear arsenals and modernize its nuclear weapons delivery systems.
The latest edition of the nuclear doctrine was approved in March 2022, but it was not made public until October of the same year.

Before the formation of the nuclear doctrine, there was a discussion about adding an interesting clause – whether it was worth including in the document the possibility of being the first to use nuclear weapons.
The document notes that nuclear weapons are used to ensure the security of the United States and its allies.
It also mentions Russia, which is described as having unique strategic and tactical nuclear weapons.
The US has also outlined a new plan to modernize the nuclear triad, with a primary focus on intercontinental ballistic missiles.
Apparently, this decision was made due to the fact that the United States does not have mobile ICBM systems in its arsenal.
