On May 19, the US Senate approved a draft law to allocate $40 billion in additional assistance to Ukraine.

American TV channels report this.

Last week, this document was approved by the US House of Representatives.

Now the bill must be signed by US President Joseph Biden.

What will the funds be used for?

Initially, it was proposed to allocate $33 billion to Ukraine.

After the bill was submitted to Congress, the amount increased to 40 billion: it was proposed to allocate more funds for military equipment and food.

$20 billion will go directly to military assistance, including training and supplying military personnel of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and replenishing American weapons.

US Department of Defense spokesman John Kirby previously said that there would be enough funds for uninterrupted arms supplies to Kyiv until May 19.

The bill also provides for humanitarian and economic assistance to Kyiv.

8.7 billion dollars will be spent on economic assistance and financing the work of Ukrainian civil services, 5 billion – on food aid to Ukraine and other countries, 900 million – to support refugees from Ukraine.

In addition, $3.9 billion will go to strengthening American troops in Europe.
