The US Senate threatens not to approve aid to Ukraine if the problem with migrants is not resolved

30views

Republican senators will not support the provision of military aid to Ukraine if the administration of US President Joseph Biden does not reduce the number of illegal migrants arriving in the country.

The American portal Semafor reports this, citing senators and sources.

What demands are Republican senators making?

According to , leading representatives of the Republican Party, including Republican Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, demanded to solve the problem of illegal migration, warning that they would not support another package of military aid to Ukraine unless effective border control measures were agreed upon.

As Republican Senator Kevin Cramer said in an interview with the portal, such measures are needed in order to discipline the White House in the performance of its legal functions.

If you don’t reduce the number of illegals crossing the border, you won’t have money for new Stinger missiles or F-16s or anything, Kramer warned.

It is noted that the number of cases of illegal crossing of the southern US border this year exceeded 2 million, which is a record figure.

With reference to Republican Senator Thom Tillis, the portal notes that Republicans and Democrats will reach agreement only if they agree to reduce this number by at least half.

On November 16, the Senate adopted a draft law on temporary financing of government work, which does not provide assistance to Ukraine and Israel.

Biden, who is currently attending the APEC summit in San Francisco, has until November 18 to sign the bill.
