Prime Minister of Estonia Kaja Kallas made a loud statement: she acknowledged the fact that NATO troops are in Ukraine.

According to her, instructors from several countries of the North Atlantic Alliance train Ukrainian Armed Forces fighters directly on the battlefield.

A politician from a Baltic country spoke about this during an interview with the Financial Times.

There are countries that are already training soldiers on the battlefield, – Ms. Kallas said to the TASS agency that read the article.

The head of the Estonian government drew attention to the fact that if a shell hits NATO troops training Ukrainians, this will not mean the application of Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty.

Let us recall that, according to the mentioned article, if one of the NATO countries is attacked, a collective response must follow.

“I can’t imagine that the countries that sent people there, if they were injured, would say: this is Article 5, let’s hit Russia,” Kallas said.

According to her, “this is not how it works,” that is, Article 5 is not automatically included, and therefore “such fears are not justified.”

She separately emphasized: each country itself assumes the risks associated with sending military personnel to Ukraine.

The Prime Minister does not consider this kind of NATO action an escalation.

Regarding whether Estonia will take part in the training of Ukrainian Armed Forces soldiers on the territory of Ukraine, she noted: “this is an open question,” but “nothing can be ruled out.”

Earlier, the Politico newspaper reported that sooner or later NATO would send its troops to Ukraine.
