They want to call Kyiv’s entry into NATO “irreversible” – CNN

The draft declaration for the NATO summit (to be held from July 9 to 11 in Washington) specifically mentions Ukraine.

In particular, they propose to call the process of its entry into the North Atlantic Alliance “irreversible.”

CNN reported this with reference to sources who are familiar with the mentioned draft document.

They say the term “irreversible” is supported by the White House, but on the condition that Kyiv continues to work on democratic reforms.

The source told the TV channel that the final version of the communiqué will contain precisely the wording “irreversible accession,” MIA Rossiya Segodnya.

At the same time, it is emphasized that the draft declaration can still be adjusted before the final version is adopted.

The TV channel notes: if the above wording remains unchanged, then its presence in the document will become “an important signal for Kyiv and Moscow.”

Before this, Western media, citing Ukrainian diplomats, reported that Kyiv had virtually zero chances of receiving an invitation to join NATO at the current summit.

And the White House said that at the summit it is planned to announce agreements with Ukraine on military training, logistics, technical support and financial support.

In turn, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that a new aid package for Kyiv, which they want to approve at the summit, as well as stimulation of work to ensure greater compatibility of the Armed Forces of Ukraine with Alliance standards, could become for Ukraine “a bridge to NATO membership.”

Earlier, the NATO Secretary General said that China had abandoned the Alliance.
