Thousands of prisoners break free in Haiti, killing at least 10 people

Several thousand prisoners escaped from a prison in Port-au-Prince, the capital and main port of Haiti.

As a result of the large-scale incident, at least 10 people were killed, reports France-Presse (AFP).

We counted many bodies of prisoners, – the media quotes the Secretary General of the National Network for the Protection of Human Rights, Pierre Esperance.

In turn, TASS, having read the AFP material, said that a journalist from a French publication who visited the prison noticed about 10 bodies of citizens with bullet wounds.

Prior to this, Western media reported that in Haiti, the main prison of the island state, located in Port-au-Prince, was attacked by members of armed groups.

Armed bandits helped free several hundred (according to other information, thousands) of convicted criminals who were there.

As Telesur TV channel reported, over 80% of the capital’s territory is now under the control of bandits.

In addition, armed groups are uniting to establish control over other regions of the country.

According to some media reports, organized criminal groups intended to overthrow the government of Ariel Henry by force.

It was previously reported that the President of Haiti was at his own residence.
