Threat of coup in Turkey: Erdogan convened an emergency meeting

61views

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan convened an emergency meeting with the heads of intelligence and the Ministry of Justice.

This happened after the leader of the Turkish nationalist party, Devlet Bahçeli, warned the head of state about a possible coup attempt.

According to him, this is being prepared by the country’s law enforcement agencies, – MIA “Russia Today” with reference to the Türkiye newspaper.

The reason for this, as the publication notes, is the dissatisfaction of police officers with the massive dismissal of their colleagues from the Ankara Security Department.

And this happened because the latter were suspected of having connections with the criminal organization Aykhan Bora Kaplan.

It is reported that the houses of the accused were searched to locate and confiscate digital materials.

Bahçeli said that a conspiracy against the government cannot be ruled out, so it cannot be limited to just removing a few police officers.

Erdogan held an emergency night meeting with Justice Minister Yilmaz Tunc and the head of the National Intelligence Organization Ibrahim Kalin at the presidential residence following Bahçeli’s statements, Türkiye reported.

It is expected that today, May 15, the Turkish leader will speak on this issue in parliament.

Earlier, Türkiye decided to file a lawsuit against South Africa against Israel at the International Court of Justice.
