Tokayev set date for early presidential elections

On September 21, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev signed a decree on holding early presidential elections in the country.

According to Tokayev’s decree, early elections will be held on November 20.

The next presidential elections in Kazakhstan were to take place in 2024.

On September 1, the President of Kazakhstan, in a message to the people, announced the holding of early presidential elections this fall.

Today he signed a decree calling elections for November 20.

Also in his message to the people, Tokayev announced early elections to the lower house of parliament (Majlis) and local representative bodies (maslikhats) in the first half of next year.

On September 17, the head of state signed a law amending the Constitution, limiting the presidential term to a 7-year period without the right of re-election.
