Too heavy without additional armor. Forbes explained why British tanks will not help the Ukrainian Armed Forces

58views

It turned out that the Challenger 2 tanks transferred from London to Kyiv are not suitable for combat operations in Ukraine.

The reason was given by military observer David Ax in an article published on the pages of Forbes magazine.

He says that these tanks are too heavy, they do not have additional armor, and they also require more careful maintenance – TASS.

According to the expert, in all campaigns where Challenger 2s were involved, additional armor was attached to them, but it is not supplied to Ukraine.

Ex explains this by saying that the armor gives the tank additional weight and thereby further deprives it of maneuverability on soft ground.

In addition, the reviewer points out such a drawback as the incompatibility of shells for Challenger 2 with other tanks.

Because of this, the Ukrainian Armed Forces are forced to maintain a separate logistics chain for the delivery of ammunition only for this tank.

The journalist also noted the unenviable performance of the British vehicle in terms of the number of shots – only 500, while other tanks, according to him, have up to 1,500 shots.

In connection with all of the above, Ax comes to the conclusion that Britain is sending Challengers to Ukraine only to encourage other NATO countries to give their tanks to the Ukrainian Armed Forces, in particular, Leopard 2, Strv 122, and Abrams M1.

Previously, there was a Polish general who was responsible for the training of Ukrainian Armed Forces soldiers.
