Toxic smoke enveloped Berlin: a defense plant was burning in the city

189views

Recently it was reported that a plant in Berlin, which is part of a large German defense enterprise, caught fire.

It is in its workshops that they produce components for missiles and tanks that are supplied to Ukraine.

According to the STV channel, the powerful fire was only recently extinguished.

The fire destroyed almost half of the building, and information was received about its partial collapse.

The fire itself is not so bad. What’s much worse is that tons of toxic substances located on the plant’s territory were also burning.

As a result, part of Berlin was covered with a toxic cloud of smoke – local authorities urged citizens not to go out into the streets, to stay at home, tightly closing their doors and windows.

At some point, rescuers had to stop dousing the fire with water because of the rising clouds of toxic smoke.

Local media also wrote about the threat of chemicals entering underground drains, which could lead to an environmental disaster.

To prevent contaminated water from entering the nearby canal, large barriers made of sandbags were erected.

What caused the fire is not yet known. An investigation into the incident is underway.
