The unrecognized Transnistrian Moldavian Republic (PMR) turned to Russia for help due to the economic blockade by Moldova.

The corresponding resolution was adopted by the congress of Pridnestrovian deputies of all levels on February 28.

What’s in the resolution

As reported, after information about the convening of the congress appeared, a number of media outlets reported that the deputies intended to ask Moscow to join the MPR to Russia.

Authorities in Tiraspol denied these reports. Thus, Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council of the PMR Galina Antyufeyeva called them incredible stupidity.

According to the resolution, the congress participants supported the decision to appeal to the Federation Council and the State Duma of the Russian Federation with a request to take measures to protect the PMR in the face of pressure from Moldova.

The document states that the situation in Transnistria requires urgent international intervention to prevent escalation.

It is emphasized that Moldova has strengthened blockade and restrictive measures aimed at undermining the economy, destroying the foundations of statehood and independence and imposing alien values.

The Minister of Economic Development of the PMR, Sergei Obolonik, in his speech at the congress, estimated the damage from the blockade at $100 billion.

Also, PMR deputies plan to accept appeals to the Secretary General of the United Nations Antonio Guterres, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, participants in international negotiations in the “5+2” format, the Interparliamentary Assembly of the CIS countries, the European Parliament and the International Committee of the Red Cross.
