45views

In connection with severe forest fires in the resort part of Turkey – Marmaris – Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced the need to consider the death penalty as a punishment for setting fires to forests.

It is worth noting that the abolition of the death penalty is a condition for the country’s accession to the EU.

A large forest fire in Turkish Marmaris became known last Tuesday.

Strong winds contributed to the spread of the already large fire.

The President of the country inspected the scene of the incident in a helicopter.

Along with the report of the fire, it became known that the cause of the fire was deliberate arson.

Later, the head of the Turkish Ministry of Internal Affairs announced the detention of a suspect who admitted to deliberately setting fire to a forest in Marmaris.

It turned out that the perpetrator was drunk at the time of the crime, and the cause of the arson was a long-standing commercial dispute in the region.

We must understand where to put an end to punishment. Execution? There must be an execution. This should be discussed, and we must think carefully about it,” MIA quotes the words of the Turkish President.

Let us recall that, in accordance with the conditions set for the republic’s accession to the EU, the death penalty was abolished in Turkey in May 2004.

President Erdogan has repeatedly stated that he considers the abolition of this penalty a serious mistake.
