Turkish Parliament Commission approves Finland’s accession to NATO

0views

On March 23, the International Affairs Commission of the Turkish Parliament approved the protocol on Finland’s accession to the North Atlantic Alliance.

The protocol was sent to parliament by the country’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who on March 17 announced his readiness to begin ratifying Finland’s application for NATO membership.

Now the document must be approved by the parliament as a whole.

This is expected to be done before March 26, Turkish TV channel reports.

What else is needed for Finland to join NATO?

Let us remind you that today Finnish President Sauli Niinist signed the laws on the country’s accession to NATO, thereby completing all internal procedures necessary to join the alliance.

Thus, immediately after ratification of the application by Turkey and Hungary, Finland will become a full member of NATO.

On Tuesday, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjártó said that the country’s parliament is going to approve Finland’s admission to NATO next Monday, March 27.
