Türkiye believes Crimea should be returned to Ukraine

0views

Türkiye has officially stated its position regarding a potential peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia.

Ankara believes that the basis of any such agreement should be the return of Crimea to Kyiv.

This statement was made by the representative of the Turkish leader, Ibrahim Kalin, emphasizing that his country’s position regarding the peninsula has remained unchanged since 2014.

Crimea is part of Ukraine, this should be the basis for concluding any agreement, – policy of MIA “Russia Today”.

Let us remember that Crimea joined Russia after a referendum held on the peninsula in March 2014.

As a result of the plebiscite, 96.77% of residents of Crimea and 95.6% of residents of Sevastopol expressed a desire to join Russia.

Ukraine still insists that Crimea is its region, calling the peninsula “temporarily occupied territory.”

In Russia they say that local residents made their own choice – the voting took place in accordance with international law and the UN Charter.

Vladimir Putin said that the Crimean issue is “finally closed.”
