It recently became known that Türkiye has closed its airspace to airlines from Armenia flying to third countries.

This statement was made by the head of the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, on Wednesday, May 3.

We have closed Armenian airspace for flights to third countries, – diplomat TASS agency.

Why did Ankara do this?

According to him, Ankara will allow Armenian planes to enter Turkey if the need arises.

However, the authorities will not allow airliners and private planes to fly through their skies until the provocations from Yerevan end, the minister said.

If they don’t stop them, we will take other measures,” Cavusoglu warned.

In this case, by provocations, the head of the Turkish Foreign Ministry means the recent opening of the Nemesis memorial in Yerevan.

It is dedicated to the action of retribution carried out at the beginning of the last century by Armenians against the organizers of the genocide, which Ankara does not recognize.

“Increasing the situation”

According to Cavusoglu, Türkiye and Azerbaijan “sincerely wanted to normalize relations with Armenia after the Karabakh war.”

Baku has made a proposal for a peace agreement, but Yerevan is still “aggravating the situation,” the Turkish diplomat noted.

“We do not accept the installation of this memorial, which glorifies the terrorists at whose hands our diplomats, citizens, and Azerbaijanis died,” he said.

And he added that Ankara will individually allow the Speaker of the Armenian Parliament Alen Simonyan to attend the meeting of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation.

The event will take place in Ankara from May 4 to 5.
