Türkiye applied to join BRICS several months ago.

Bloomberg reports this, citing sources.

Why Türkiye applied to join BRICS

Bloomberg writes that Turkey wants to expand ties with developing countries and strengthen its influence in the world.

In addition, the agency notes, Turkey’s interest in BRICS is associated with the lack of progress on joining the European Union amid disagreements with its allies in the North Atlantic Alliance.

According to Bloomberg, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who believes that the West is ceasing to be a geopolitical center, wants to develop relations with various players in the multipolar world.

According to the agency, the issue of expanding BRICS may be considered at the upcoming summit of the association, which will be held in Kazan on October 22-24.

In early July, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, during a visit to China, announced Ankara’s desire to join BRICS and possible steps in this direction this year.

Press Secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov said that Moscow welcomes such increased interest in BRICS.

On January 1, the chairmanship of the association passed to Russia. The year began with the accession of new members – Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Iran and Ethiopia.
