Türkiye slows down Sweden’s entry into NATO

27views

The question of Sweden’s entry into NATO is once again “up in the air.” All for the same reason – Türkiye does not yet approve of this initiative.

Ankara says it has not committed to a time frame for approving the Scandinavian country’s membership in the North Atlantic Alliance.

Senior Turkish politicians warn that speculation on this topic is unacceptable and unacceptable.

MIA Rossiya Segodnya communicated their position to the general public, clarifying that the relevant information was received from a source in the Turkish presidential administration.

Earlier, Reuters reported about a message from the Turkish authorities to NATO leadership.

It said that Ankara would not be able to ratify Sweden’s application before the meeting of the foreign ministers of the Alliance countries in Brussels (scheduled for November 28-29).

We have not made any commitments on any deadlines; the issue is being comprehensively considered and discussed by the relevant committee of the Grand National Assembly,” said the interlocutor of the Russian news agency from the Turkish Presidential Administration.

He recalled Erdogan’s statement that the Turkish parliament would have the final say on this issue – on the approval of Stockholm’s application.

Speculation in this regard is unacceptable, an unnamed Turkish government official warned.

By the way. Earlier, the parliament of the republic decided to postpone to a later date the discussion of the draft law on approving Sweden’s application to join NATO.

Prior to this, the protocol on Stockholm’s accession to the Alliance was signed by Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
