Poland has begun fortification work on the border with Belarus and Ukraine.

This information was announced by the head of the Polish government, Donald Tusk, on May 11 after a meeting with border guards and military personnel on the border with Belarus.

The speech of the Prime Minister of the Republic was broadcast by a Polish television channel.

What Tusk said about strengthening the eastern border

The Polish prime minister said that intensive work had begun on modern fortification “in many dimensions.”

The head of the Polish government appealed to the European Union to help finance fortification work, emphasizing that we are talking about the security of the community’s border.

Tusk did not specify what kind of work to strengthen the border with Belarus and Ukraine will be carried out.

In March, Polish authorities announced the start of modernization of the fence on the border with Belarus, built in 2022. As the Deputy Head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Poland, Czeslaw Mroczek, said, the fence is not reliable enough.

The fence is a five-meter wall of steel lattice blocks with a length of 186 kilometers, equipped with motion sensors and night vision devices. The barrier cost Poland $278 million.

In October 2023, Poles voted against demolishing the fence in a referendum.

Previously, the majority of Germany’s military from 2025 will be controlled by NATO.
