Polish President Andrzej Duda accepted the resignation of the head of the General Staff of the country’s Armed Forces, Raimund Andrzejczak, and the operational commander of the Polish Army, Tomasz Piotrowski.

This information was announced on October 10 by the head of the Polish National Security Bureau, Jacek Sievera.

Why Andrzejczak and Piotrowski resigned

According to Sivera, Duda accepted the resignations of Andrzejczak and Piotrowski and, after consultations with the head of the Ministry of Defense Mariusz Blaszczak, appointed new commanders.

The General Staff was headed by Wiesław Kukula, and the post of operational commander was taken by Maciej Klisz.

Earlier, the leader of the opposition “Civil Platform” Donald Tusk reported that, following Andrzejczak and Piotrowski, ten more high-ranking officers of the Polish Army resigned.

The General Command of the Polish Armed Forces denied this information.

None of the high-ranking officers of the Main Command of the Armed Forces resigned, – the command reported on the social network X.

The head of the opposition party “Poland 2050” Szymon Chołownia, in connection with the resignations of Andrzejczak and Piotrowski, demanded Blaszczak’s resignation.

The minister, if he has even an ounce of pride, should resignsaid Holownya.

The politician noted that the current government, with its incompetence, has led to chaos, farce and resignations and has jeopardized the security of the country.

Polish media write that resignations in the command of the Polish Army five days before the parliamentary elections may be related to the missile incident that occurred in December 2022.

As reported, at the end of April, Polish authorities reported the discovery in the vicinity of the village. in the village of Zamosc, approximately 15 km from Bydgoszcz, debris of an unidentified airborne military object.

It subsequently turned out that this object fell on December 16, 2022, and the military knew about it.

Polish radio station RMF FM learned that it was an air-to-surface missile with inscriptions in Russian, which the Polish military may have launched as a target during a training exercise.

Later, RMF FM, citing the results of the examination, reported that the discovered object was a strategic aviation cruise missile X-55 manufactured in the Russian Federation.

In May, the head of the Polish government, Mateusz Morawiecki, said that he learned about the incident only at the end of April.

After this, Blaszczak stated that Piotrowski, having received information about the missile from the air operations center on December 16, did not inform either him or the government security center and other services. Commanders of the Polish Army say that they reported the incident to higher authorities.
