Two Ukrainian ministries – justice and defense – supported the draft law on the legalization of same-sex marriage.

Verkhovna Rada deputy Inna Sovsun notified the general public about this.

According to her, previously the Ministry of Defense had a different point of view on this issue, but changed its position.

And the Ministry of Justice, which was supposed to develop an alternative law on this kind of partnership, also adjusted its position.

Now it (the Ministry of Justice – Ed.) is ready to support my bill No. 9103 and is preparing amendments to it for the second reading, – TASS parliamentarian.

Sovsun noted that previously both of these departments opposed the draft law on the legalization of same-sex marriage.

Moreover, the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Justice “blocked further progress of the bill in parliament,” she noted.

The Verkhovna Rada database contains information according to which a bill on the legalization of same-sex partnerships was registered on March 13.

The document is currently under consideration by the Legal Policy Committee.

Earlier, some Ukrainian activists signed a petition calling on Vladimir Zelensky to allow same-sex marriage in the country.

The President, reacting to the petition, did not say whether he would support or reject the law if the Verkhovna Rada adopted it.

According to him, the document needs to be finalized, so it is not yet included in the agenda of the Verkhovna Rada meetings.
