UK opposition representatives called for sanctions against Telegram

0views

In the UK, there have been calls for sanctions against the Telegram messenger.

The leader of the opposition Labor Party of Great Britain, Keir Starmer, approached Boris Johnson with this proposal. According to the politician, the popular messenger has long been favored by extremists.

The opposition demands that the British prime minister make an appropriate decision regarding the equally popular social network TikTok, reports BBC News.

However, regarding the Telegram platform, the politician is more categorical and states that “this is the application that extremists choose.”

As an example, Starmer cited calls from users in the messenger for violent reprisals based on political differences, gender characteristics, homophobia, Islamophobia, racism, etc.

The opposition representative also noted that the British government promised to start fighting extremism on the Internet three years ago.

But the amendments prepared for this purpose never came into force.

“Strong sanctions” must be introduced against applications, and the managers of such platforms must be held responsible for the content of the publications posted, the politician believes.
