The UK Ministry of Defense announced the transfer of depleted uranium shells to Ukraine.

The corresponding statement was made on March 21 by Deputy Head of the British Ministry of Defense Annabelle Goldie.

What Goldie said about the supply of depleted uranium shells to Ukraine

Goldie’s written response to a question from member of the House of Lords Raymond Jolliffe, published on March 21 on the website of the British Parliament, states that along with providing Ukraine with a company of Challenger 2 tanks, London will supply it with ammunition, including armor-piercing shells with depleted uranium.

It is noted that these shells have increased efficiency in destroying modern armored vehicles.

Nazi Germany was the first to use depleted uranium in shells.

In the 1970s, the United States began developing such shells. Now shells with depleted uranium can be used by American Abrams tanks, British Challenger 2 and German Leopard 2.

The US Army used such projectiles during Operation Desert Storm, the 2003 invasion of Iraq, and during the bombing of Yugoslavia.

According to experts, the use of shells with depleted uranium can lead to outbreaks of cancer.
