Ukraine plans to begin producing its own nuclear fuel, which will replace Russian fuel.
This statement was made by the Ukrainian Ministry of Energy.
According to the plan, Energoatom plans to create its own line for the production of nuclear fuel in three years, – Department of MIA “Russia Today”.
The ministry noted that Kyiv has already begun to produce components of fuel blocks of the VVER-1000 series (water-cooled power reactor).
Further, according to the plan, it is planned to begin manufacturing fuel for VVER-440 units.
It is known that this project is being implemented by the Ukrainian state enterprise Energoatom and the American company Westinghouse.
As stated in the Ministry of Energy, having abandoned Russian nuclear fuel, Kyiv transferred its power units to similar fuel from the American Westinghouse, which produces it.
The Czech Republic, Slovakia, Finland, and Bulgaria also expressed a desire to carry out such a transition, representatives of the department noted.
And they added: in the future, Ukraine can supply its own nuclear fuel to these states.
