Ukraine has closed its ports to ships from Russia

34views

A ban on Russian cargo ships staying in the internal waters of Ukraine has come into force.

The Verkhovna Rada adopted the corresponding provision of the law “On Inland Water Transport” on December 3, 2020.

Thus, from January 1, 2022, Russian cargo ships will not be able to moor at Ukrainian ports.

Transportation can now only be carried out by Ukrainian ships or foreign ships owned by companies registered in Ukraine.

However, among the latter there is an exception – transportation cannot be carried out by ships “under the flag of the aggressor state,” which Kyiv considers Russia to be.

Also, ships owned by “citizens of a state recognized by Ukraine as an aggressor state or an occupier state” cannot transport cargo – Belta.

Let us add that inland river waterways in Ukraine include the rivers Dnieper, Danube, Dniester, etc.
