Ukraine is having a hard time finding money for its military – WSJ

0views

Kyiv is having difficulty finding financial resources to pay salaries to Ukrainian Armed Forces soldiers.

The reason for this is the resulting gap between military spending and the reduction in tax revenues.

Every day and night it’s a constant headache – the head of the Ukrainian Ministry of Finance Sergei Marchenko is quoted by the American edition of the Wall Street Journal, as reported by the Rossiya Segodnya news agency.

Due to the financial deficit, the Bank of Ukraine is forced to print money, which weakens the hryvnia exchange rate and provokes inflation.

Tax revenues cover only about 40% of government spending, says the WSJ.

It also draws attention to the fact that over 60% of budget expenditures are for military needs.

But in order to cover other expenses, Ukraine needs funds in the amount of $5 billion monthly.

Let us add that in July, the head of the Ukrainian government, Denis Shmygal, asked the West for $750 billion to restore the country.
