In Kabul, unknown persons hijacked a Ukrainian plane and hijacked it to Iran. He arrived in the capital of Afghanistan to evacuate Ukrainian citizens.

Deputy Head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry Yevgeny Enin informed about this today, August 24.

Details of the incident

According to a Foreign Ministry spokesman, the plane was hijacked on Sunday, August 22.

On Tuesday, our plane was actually stolen; it flew to Iran with an unknown group of passengers on board instead of taking Ukrainians out, – diplomat TASS agency.

Yevgeny Enin noted that the next three attempts to evacuate Ukrainians were also unsuccessful, since the passengers were unable to get to the airport.

He added that the unknown hijackers were armed. But he did not say what is known about this plane at the moment.

It also remains unknown whether Kyiv intends to demand the return of the plane.

The deputy minister also did not say what plane the evacuated Ukrainians were delivered to their homeland on August 22.

Yenin only said that over the past week all Ukrainian diplomats, including Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba, have been working “in crash test mode.”

Who could be evacuated?

Let us remind you that earlier the media reported that a military transport plane arrived in Boryspil from Kabul last Sunday.

There were 83 people on board, including 31 citizens of Ukraine.

According to the Office of the President of Ukraine, 12 Ukrainian servicemen returned home.

In addition, foreign journalists and public figures who turned to Kyiv for help were taken out.

Currently, according to the same source of information, about a hundred more Ukrainians are in Afghanistan – they are planning to be evacuated in the near future.
