Understand the PF investigation investigating allegations of harassment against Silvio Almeida

The Federal Police (PF) formally opened a police investigation to investigate allegations of sexual harassment against the former Minister of Human Rights Silvio Almeida and, with this, defines the next steps in the investigation.

Authorization to open the investigation with a report from the Federal Supreme Court (STF), which understood that the case should be under the supervision of the Supreme Court – following a request from the PF and with the approval of the Attorney General’s Office (PGR).

Before sending the petition with a request to open an investigation, the PF opened a Crime in Verification Report based on information released in the press.

The case, in the Intelligence Directorate, heard a whistleblower last week to collect information, .

The PF included information from the testimony in the report and sent it to the STF.

The leadership of the Federal Police then appointed a female investigator to lead the investigation. The delegate, from the intelligence sector, had her name preserved by the institution’s management to avoid exposure.

In addition to the complainant interviewed last week, the PF will now collect statements from other alleged victims of the case. A representative of the organization MeToo Brasil, which received the complaints, must also give a statement.

Since the case came to light, following a report by Metrópoles, Almeida has denied the allegations of harassment and stated that he intends to prove his innocence during the investigations.

Silvio Almeida was fired the day after reports against several women were released. One of the victims would be Minister Anielle Franco, of Racial Equality.

Silvio Almeida’s defense said he will speak out when he has access to the case.

Former minister Silvio Almeida has already said he “absolutely vehemently repudiates the lies that are being made against” him. He also claims that the accusations have no “materiality” and are based on “inclusions” and that the aim of the accusations is to “harm” him and “block his future”.

Almeida also says that he is most interested in proving his innocence and asks for the facts to be established so that there is the possibility of his defense within the legal process.
