US Ambassador to Hungary David Pressman threatened to use leverage over Budapest.
The American diplomat made a corresponding statement in an interview with the Financial Times.

In an interview, Pressman said that Hungarian foreign policy is disastrous for the North Atlantic Alliance and benefits Russia.
The ambassador criticized Hungary’s position on the issue of Ukraine’s accession to the European Union, Budapest’s blocking of financial assistance to Ukraine, the meeting of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban with Russian President Vladimir Putin, and the resistance of the Hungarian authorities to the closure of pro-Kremlin sites.
Such a political choice is undoubtedly useful for Putin, – said the diplomat.
At the same time, Pressman said that Washington views Hungary as an ally and cares about it.
It is very unusual to have a country that refuses to engage with the US on US security issues. – he noted.
The ambassador also criticized the head of the Hungarian government for his active participation in the election campaign in the United States, open support of former US President Donald Trump and calls for current President Joseph Biden to resign.
According to the diplomat, this is not what Washington expects from its allies.

Orban, who has had a tense relationship with the Biden administration, has long been sympathetic to Trump and openly wants him to be re-elected. The former US president, for his part, calls the Hungarian prime minister a strong leader.
