In the United States, police arrested but then released Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein.

Her campaign headquarters announced this on the social network X.

Why was Stein detained?

The politician was detained on Saturday for participating in a pro-Palestinian rally held on the campus of Washington University in St. Louis.

Along with Stein, her campaign manager Jason Call, his deputy Kelly Merrill-Kyer and about 100 other protesters, mostly students, were detained.

Having set up a tent camp, the protesters demanded that the university give up its shares in the Boeing Corporation, which produces ammunition used by Israel in the Gaza Strip.

Stein’s campaign supports student demands, peaceful protest and campus gatherings, – the headquarters said in a statement.

Video released by the headquarters showed Stein being escorted off campus in handcuffs by two police officers.

After a brief arrest, the politician and other protesters were released from a St. Louis prison.

The university’s press service said the arrests came after protesters refused to leave after repeated requests, and that the protesters would be charged with trespassing on campus.

Some are charged with resisting arrest, assault and battery on police officers.

Over the past 10 days, about 900 people have been detained at pro-Palestinian demonstrations at universities in the United States.

Earlier, the Latvian Ministry of Health did not support the ban on medicines from Russia and Belarus.
