US Secretary of State: decisions on possible concessions of territory should be made by Ukraine itself

17views

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said that decisions on possible territorial concessions should be made by Ukraine itself.

The head of American diplomacy made this statement in an open online interview with the American publication The Atlantic.

What Blinken said about territorial concessions

The head of the US State Department was asked whether he foresees a situation in which Washington would come into conflict with the Ukrainian authorities due to the fact that restoring Kyiv’s control over certain regions of Ukraine seems to be a difficult matter.

Blinken responded by recalling that American President Joseph Biden has repeatedly said that decisions about whether or not to make territorial concessions for the sake of peace should be made by Ukrainians.

Nothing about Ukraine without Ukraine. This remains the guiding light for what we do – stated the Secretary of State.

He noted that peace in Ukraine must be lasting and fair in terms of compliance with the basic principles of the Charter of the United Nations.

Of course, Ukrainians must make fundamental decisions about what they want their future to look like, – Blinken summarized.
