Why the coming winter will be difficult for Ukraine

According to , at the hearing, Pyatt said that Washington, in close cooperation with G7 partners, representatives of humanitarian organizations and the private sector, is working to help Ukraine keep warm and light in its homes.

The Assistant Secretary of State noted that Ukraine’s generating capacity has been reduced by 50% since the start of the conflict.

The coming winter promises to be even more difficult for Ukraine than the previous one, – said a State Department spokesman.

The day before, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba said that the country was preparing for the worst winter in history.

The head of the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine, German Galushchenko, recommended that Ukrainians purchase electric generators in early October.

Before this, the minister reported that since October 2022, 300 energy infrastructure facilities have been damaged, and energy workers do not have time to repair the energy system by winter. Galushchenko also stated that Western countries are slow to supply equipment for repairs.

According to United Nations estimates, the capacity of the Ukrainian energy infrastructure has more than halved since February last year – from 37 to 19 GW.
