Virus similar to SARS-CoV-2 found in bats in Laos

0views

A radical turning point may occur in the investigation into the causes of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus pandemic.

A discovery made by employees of the Pasteur Institute in France may be the key to solving this mystery. Colleagues from the National University of Laos helped the French scientists.

Having studied the population of bats living in Laos, scientists discovered a version of the virus similar to the SARS-CoV-2 currently raging in the world.

Bats living in caves in Laos are recognized as carriers of the virus that causes COVID-19.

It has been established that the identified pathogen can theoretically be transmitted to humans.

Despite the fact that the WHO mission did not confirm the transmission of coronavirus from wild animals to humans, this version is still considered as one of the possible ones.

But at the same time, trade in potentially dangerous wild animals continues in Asian countries.

Note that the scientists’ discovery does not allow us to dot the i’s, but the researchers are confident that versions of the pathogen that are genetically close to SARS-CoV-2 exist in nature.

Let us remind you that the version about the natural origin of the coronavirus is doubted in the United States and a number of countries.

WHO intends to equip a new expedition to search for the causes of the pandemic in China and other regions.

The PRC recommends looking for these reasons outside the People’s Republic, for example in Italy or the USA.
